Innovation 101, 2008: Strengths Based Training
Fifty participants enjoyed this half day workshop.
The Workshop…
The workshop introduced the short-film series, “Trombone Player Wanted”, by Marcus Buckingham. This series teaches participants how to discover and develop ways to put their Strengths to work. Participants received a copy of the “StrengthsFinder 2.0” book which is an assessment tool that assists individuals in discovering their own strengths.
Myth:
“As you grow your personality changes”
Truth:
“As you grow, you become more of who you already are”
Myth:
“You will grow most in your area of greatest weakness”
Truth:
“You will grow most in your area of greatest strength”
Myth:
“A great team member does whatever it takes to help them”
Truth:
“A great team member deliberately volunteers his/her strengths to the team most of the time”
The Facilitator…
Judy Williams is employed with the Nova Scotia Community College, at the Kingstec Campus. Two years ago Judy was introduced to StrengthsFinder through a professional development program through the college. This program was life changing—giving her a better understanding of herself and to make connections with past successes with her learners, as well as in her own life. The last two years Judy has taken every opportunity to learn more about Strengths including training with Idahlynn Karre Ph.D, college professor and leader of educational innovation, attending international conferences, presented with her colleagues at the Chair Academy Conference in Denver Colorado and most recently became a Certified Strengths Advocate with Gallup Organization. Judy has facilitated numerous workshops with the Nova Scotia Community College with staff, faculty and student leaders; guiding them through the discovery, development, and application stages of Strengths.
